RESEARCH INTERESTS

We have recently developed highly efficient induction protocols to generate neural stem cell-like cells (iNSCs), neuron-like cells (iNs) and GABAergic neuron-like cells (iGNs) from human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs) via small molecule-mediated inhibition of SMAD signaling without genetic manipulation. All induced cells adopted morphological, molecular and functional features of their bona fide counterparts.

Our rapid, reproducible and robust protocols enable the efficient generation of high-quality expandable iNSCs, functional iNs and iGNs from hADSCs, which can be greatly useful for safe and effective cell-based therapy and in vitro disease modeling of various neurological and psychiatric disorders [Sci. Rep. 2017, 7(1):10166].
